Icelandic mare foaling

Many years ago, I was alerted by the farmer who keeps an eye on the family horses for us that one of the mares seemed to be about to foal. So I grabbed my camera and drove out to the pasture, where I hit the jackpot. Some of the images are a bit blurred as I had a slow film in the camera.

“I think I’ll have a little snack, just in case this takes long”

"Just about to get there..."

"...easy does it..."

"...here we go."

"Where am I?"

"Hello, baby"

"Are you my mom?"

“Ugh! I’d forgotten how nasty caul tastes”

"I will get up if it's the last thing I do!"

This is the last photo, as I ran out of film at this point. I still wish I had taken a tripod with me, and more film.

Same mare, different foal.
