Parmigan on the nest

This female ptarmigan made her nest on the verge of a golf course. While the nesting site was rather exposed with regard to humans, it was an excellent idea in order to avoid foxes, mink, feral cats and predatory birds, since people play golf on the course late into the night during the summer.

Unfortunately she still lost her eggs, because a couple of days after the photos were taken we had a very bad snowstorm, followed by cold weather for several days, and when we checked on the nest she was gone and only the broken egg-shells remained, the contents devoured by scavengers.

From my collection of photos taken on film.
