|The Ikea Yule tree from a few years back.|
Thursday, December 01, 2011
The first commercial enterprise in Iceland in recent years to start selling Christmas decorations and gifts each year is Ikea. This year they started in mid-September. I boycott them from September until the beginning of December, and as a matter of fact I avoid most shops other than supermarkets during November, because while I do like to look at the lights and window decorations, I hate how Yule has become over-commercialised. It's like all that matters is shopping, not the joy the holidays bring.
